It’s easy to lose sight of ALL that our liver does for us. This list represents a tiny percentage of the tasks the liver helps us with. Let’s look at the final step in liver drainage. The last phase does not involve chemical alteration but transportation of toxins out of the liver cells.
Conjugated toxins that are carried into your blood go to the kidneys for further filtration and elimination through your bladder/urine. Toxins that are put into bile are moved to your small intestine for movement through your digestive tract. The bile will ultimately be moved out through your large intestine (colon) via stool.
Liver drainage relies on transport proteins to carry the water-soluble toxins out of your liver cells. These transport cells rely on ATP that’s made within the mitochondria. Supporting your mitochondria will help your body have the energy it needs for essential functions like liver detoxification (basics- get enough sleep, drink water, get sunlight in the morning, move your body, reduce toxicant exposure).
In addition to well-functioning mitochondria, it’s essential to stay well hydrated (for elimination through the urine) and have easy to pass, well-formed bowel movements, 2-3 times/day! Coffee enemas are one strategy to support natural liver detoxification. Keep in mind that this strategy provides support, but you HAVE to keep your liver fueled or these steps are in vain (refer to prior posts for essential nutrients).
Coffee enemas stimulate the production of glutathione, considered the master detoxifier (it helps to bind with toxins and remove them from the colon.) Swipe to read more about these two methods! I will put a step-by-step article for how to do coffee enemas in my bio.
With either of these interventions, ask your healthcare practitioner if they’re safe for you!
