I work with a lot of people that have been ill for a long time. Even if they haven’t, it’s incredibly discouraging when you don’t feel good and don’t feel like you’re making progress. Remind yourself that symptoms are your body’s way of communicating a need.

I often share how important it is to evaluate your relationship to your health and body- how most of us need to develop more compassion for ourselves, demonstrate less restriction, and pursue more freedom/balance. Showing compassion for yourself doesn’t mean you never have a negative or self-deprecating thought. It also doesn’t mean you don’t challenge yourself or are complacent.

Memories are transcribed in our subconscious and can be reactivated with exposure to certain words, a smell, a person, music, etc. When memories are brought to the forefront (regardless if they elicit positive or negative responses), there is a cascade of emotions, hormones, neurotransmitters, and processes in the body that are stimulated.

I saw a post someone shared calling out holistic wellness practitioners for spiritual bypassing, gaslighting, and toxic positivity. And I get it- journaling, breathwork, and grounding aren’t the panacea for your individual problems or the universal problems we face. Utilizing holistic modalities doesn’t mean you’re ignorant. It is not an either/or- you can find healing through holistic health and utilize western medicine.
